The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has just issued a document approving the additional functions of wharves 1, 2, 3 of Tien Sa port area to be allowed to receive container ships.
Previously, Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company had written a petition to the Ministry of Transport to allow 3 wharves of Tien Sa port to receive container ships.
In particular, wharf No. 1 receives container ships with a capacity of up to 20,000 tons upstream, container ships with a capacity of up to 45,000 tons offload downstream; Wharf No. 2 receives container ships with a capacity of up to 30,000 tons upstream, container ships with a capacity of up to 20,000 tons offload downstream. Wharf No. 3 receives container ships up to 50,000 tons to reduce load.
The Ministry of Transport said: According to Decision No. 1579/2021 of the Prime Minister approving the Master Plan of Vietnam’s seaport system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Tien Sa wharf area is planned to include: port for container ships up to 4,000 Teu (50,000 tons), general ships, bulk cargo ships up to 50,000 tons; International passenger ships up to 225,000 GT.
Therefore, the Ministry of Transport believes that the proposal to allow wharves No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 of Tien Sa port to receive container ships is in accordance with the approved seaport planning orientation.
In addition, in Decision No. 2369/2016 of the Ministry of Transport approving the detailed planning of the Central Coast seaport group (Group 3) for the period up to 2020, with an orientation to 2030, Tien Sa wharf area meets the expected cargo volume. It is expected that by 2020 it will be about 8.6 million tons, and by 2030 it will be about 11.9-13.8 million tons.
The Ministry of Transport requested the People’s Committee of Da Nang City to direct relevant agencies to coordinate closely with the Vietnam Maritime Administration to guide and supervise Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company in implementing the next steps in accordance with seaport planning, Comply with legal regulations, ensure maritime safety, fire prevention, and environmental protection.
In particular, the Ministry of Transport reminds businesses to properly exploit the port’s functions, does not recommend the Ministry of Transport to invest in upgrading Tien Sa navigation channel and takes responsibility for the effectiveness of investment in port exploitation, ensuring safety. , maritime security, fire and explosion prevention, environmental pollution prevention.
The Vietnam Maritime Administration is responsible for updating information on wharves No. 1, 2, and 3 of Tien Sa wharf area mentioned above in the detailed planning of the Central Coast seaport group (Group 3) for the period up to 2020, with an orientation to 2020. 2030 and in the detailed planning for land and water areas of Da Nang seaport in the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
