The Department of Animal and Plant Health Quarantine (APHIS) under the US Department of Agriculture has just sent a letter to the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) with information about the US opening the market with Vietnamese skullcap coconuts.
“APHIS is pleased to share the latest information regarding market access for coconut skulls exported from Vietnam to the US. APHIS understands that this is an important issue for Vietnamese manufacturers and we have made it a priority to comply with your request,” APHIS announced.
The Department of Animal and Plant Health Quarantine said that it has been conducting parallel planning for the next steps in the market access process and internal analysis to evaluate this item.
The results show that the Vietnamese coconut palm meets the requirements of the US side for processed products and has a negligible risk of spreading plant pests.
A day earlier, APHIS has completed updating the online database of agricultural goods import requirements to approve the import of young Vietnamese coconuts, having separated at least 75% of the coir and completely removed it. full green outer shell.
According to the US Department of Animal and Plant Health Quarantine, Vietnamese producers can start exporting coconut skulls to the US immediately.
Notably, the only phytosanitary requirements for shipments will take place only at US ports of entry. Currently, APHIS has notified the update to US Customs and Border Protection to avoid any delays in shipments at ports of entry in this country.
